Salida, CO at a Glance
Surrounded by 15 peaks standing at an elevation of more than 14,000 ft (4,270
m)or Fourteeners as locals call themSalida boasts a selection of activities
and unique adventures through the Central
Rockies region, including llama treks. The Arkansas
River runs through the town, boasting world-renowned currents that are enjoyed
by many. These currents are celebrated during the annual Blue
Paddle FibArk Whitewater Festival, attracting competitors from around the
world for water and land races. One of Colorado's
largest indoor natural hot springs is found at the Salida
Hot Springs Aquatic Center, which is ideal after spending a day at the nearby
Monarch Ski and Snowboard Area. Historic downtown Salida offers a glimpse
of the town's beginnings through a number of preserved buildings and is examined
more in depth at the Salida
Museum. Each year the Art
Walk Festival brings visitors and artists from all over to enjoy a weekend
of big city art exhibits and sales.
